Our Story

A Vision Takes Root

The story of Specialized Charities Group Inc. began with a simple yet powerful idea. A group of business associates gathered for a meeting, united by a shared concern: the growing environmental crisis and the need to support underserved populations.

Over coffee, they discussed the mounting waste caused by overstocked products and returned goods, realizing that these items could be repurposed to serve a greater purpose. They envisioned a future where these resources could be used to educate and empower those in need.

A Plan Emerges

Inspired by their conversation, the group developed a plan to address two significant challenges: environmental sustainability and social empowerment. They saw an opportunity to train veterans, seniors, and community members using these excess goods, equipping them with valuable skills to reenter the workforce and contribute to society.

Specialized Charities Group Inc. was born out of this shared vision, with a mission to transform lives and create lasting change. The organization’s founders believed that by providing education and support, they could help individuals regain their independence and purpose.

2025 Summary

Upon launching April 01 2024, Specialized Charities Group Inc. made major strides in expanding our mission to serve veterans, seniors, single parents, and families in need.

This year saw the successful implementation of our grant distribution initiatives, offering vital support through essential goods, medical supplies, and necessities.

These grants helped reduce financial stress and improve daily living for thousands. We also enhanced our free training programs, delivering both in-person and online courses designed to help veterans and seniors reenter the workforce or engage in volunteer service. Programs in computer literacy, e-commerce fulfillment, and professional development opened doors to new opportunities and independence.

The most exciting milestone of 2024 was the groundbreaking of our new Veteran, Senior, and Family Community Center. Scheduled for completion in late 2025, this facility will be a central hub for education, training, and the distribution of essential goods and services. It will include classrooms, technology labs, and donation support areas, expanding our ability to serve more people in meaningful ways.

We are proud of what we’ve achieved this year and are grateful to our volunteers, donors, and partners for their unwavering commitment and support.

2025 Highlights & Obstacles

Through disasters we rise above. Moving messages from our directors. “We will rebuild as we are stronger than ever”.

In 2025, Specialized Charities faced extraordinary challenges while making significant strides in disaster relief and community support. Despite enduring severe setbacks from Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton, Specialized Charities successfully issued over 245,000 grant points dedicated to disaster relief and individual recovery efforts. Each grant point, representing approximately $5.00, culminated in a commendable total of roughly $1,225,000.00 in direct assistance programs provided to in need and affected individuals, families and other in need groups.

This remarkable achievement occurred concurrently with considerable difficulties at the charity’s headquarters. Specialized Charities' 20,000 square foot facility, situated on a sprawling 12-acre property, suffered extensive damage. Essential infrastructure, including the building’s roof, seven critical air conditioning units, interior walls, floors, and the surrounding forest area, faced severe impacts. Despite these setbacks, the charity maintained dedication, continuously providing crucial aid to communities across Florida and neighboring states throughout the recovery period.

Director Dwayne Dixon praised the collective resilience, stating, “Even though our efforts have been affected, we still hold strong and support all those in need, even as we ourselves are in need of assistance. 2025 is going to be our year, as our community center will open later in the year.”

The local community demonstrated remarkable solidarity, stepping forward with crucial support that enabled Specialized Charities to persist in their mission. Volunteers and donors alike joined forces, exemplifying the power of collective action and community spirit. These efforts have been instrumental in ensuring continuous aid distribution, demonstrating a powerful synergy between the charity and its supporters.

Looking ahead, Specialized Charities is optimistic about reopening their renovated community center, anticipating it as a beacon of hope and support for future community enrichment. As we approach 2025, the organization remains committed to restoring its facility and expanding its capabilities to serve even more effectively in times of need.

Karen Ruiz, Director of marketing at Specialized Charities, expressed her heartfelt reaction: “It was heart wrenching to hear the personal stories of so many who lost everything during these destructive storms” She went on to say “hugs are always available”

Jonathan Weiner, Director of Specialized Charities, shared his gratitude, saying, “Our 20,000 SF building is battered and in need of repair, but our mission to help those in need is unstoppable. Our air conditioners and walls may be damaged, but our hearts are whole.” His words reflect our resolve to serve our community, despite the obstacles we face.

Steve Norrito, Director of Distribution at Specialized Charities voiced the immediate needs of survivors: “People need personal items, building supplies, flooring and tools to really get the rebuilding ball rolling”

Specialized Charities is powered by an incredible group of volunteers whose dedication and resilience have carried us through one of the most challenging years in our history.
